Colts cruise to win over Easton

31 Mar by Jon Carpenter

Wessex Colts completed the double over Easton Cowboys A after a convincing 4-0 at the Lockleaze Sports Arena.

On paper, this should have been a close game, with the two teams very close in the league table. Wessex was having none of that, flying out of the traps from the first whistle with a brilliant passing move from midfield anchor Scott Norton-Ashley, winger Tom Trimble and young striker Matt Williams.

Unfortunately for the ‘away’ side, captain Connor O’Neill was forced off early with a recurring knee injury. On a plus, Will Crameri came back to get some valuable game time.

16 minutes in, and Colts went 1-0 up, 16 year old Williams gambling on a Trimble flick over the top to open the scoring.

Only 6 minutes later Wessex doubled the advantage, stand in goalkeeper Jack Millard seen club top scorer Trimble making the run through the defence and a brilliant ball over the defence allowed the king of Wessex to smash home on the half volley.

Wessex tempo seemed to slow after this until the half-time whistle, but the centre-back pairing of Tom Longley and man of the matchYemi Oladimeji stood strong, not allowing a peep on goal for the opposition. A couple of chances for Arthur Marsden and Williams seen the half out.

Half time Easton 0-2 Wessex

The second half began similar to the first, Wessex straight out on the attack and it was the youngsters turn to combine, Williams dragging the ball back for 18 year old Dray Collins, who got his first goal in the adults kit. 0-3.

Lots of changes made during the second period, with a busy schedule ahead, Sam Blundell making his Wessex debut, Fes Malik back after a number of weeks out and manager Jon Carpenter getting a 20 minute cameo.

The changes didn’t change play to much, still comfortable, Wessex hit the bar through Williams and then 10 minutes later, winger Khan Miller won a penalty after calmly rounding and being brought down, in his first start this season after a long term injury. Collins stepped up after winning a game of rock paper scissors v Williams to hit the ball through the keeper and make it 0-4.

Thank you to Easton Cowboys for helping to get the game to go ahead and best of luck for the rest of the season.
