Youth shines in Colts win

Wessex Colts entertained Bromley Heath A, in a mid table clash at Lockleaze Sports Centre on the 4G. A young Colts squad containing ten players aged 23 or younger, including five teenagers, were looking to bounce back from 5 straight defeats, and that they did with a brilliant 3-2 win.

After consecutive losses, manager Jon Carpenter looked to freshen the side up, and the new look Colts gelled quickly in a very even first half, which neither side had many chances. A couple of half chances from Dray Collins and a header from Mahamadou Sankoun the best attempts.
A change in the first half brought on Rogi Cavalera for his first game in adult football.

Half time 0-0

The second half and away side took the lead, 10 minutes in, after a long kick from the goalkeeper, Bromley Heath striker gambled on a through ball to make it 0-1.

61 minutes into the game, 19 year old makeshift striker Assan Sowe was brought down inside the penalty area after a great run through the defence, up stepped Jack Costerton to calmly slot a precise penalty into the bottom corner with superb power.

This brought new belief to a Colts side who have been off in recent games and a corner in the 68th minute from Costerton was met by U18 centre back James Wickham who leaped like a young Cristiano Ronaldo to rifle a header home and make it 2-1.

5 minutes later and the lead doubled, another set piece from Costerton. This time, a free kick was met again by man of the match Wickham with another header to make it 3-1.

78 minutes in, and Bromley Heath won a penalty after a soft clash of legs with defender Yemi Oladimeji, Heath brought it back to 3-2 to make it a nervy end.

Brilliant game from both sides and look forward to the return fixture.
